    Solutions for ultrasonic measurements, testing, imaging, diagnostic, NDT and AI-based decision support

    The Ultrasound Research Institute represents majority of ultrasonic research groups at Kaunas University of Technology. Ultrasound research spans over 60 years of activity in the field of ultrasonic measurements, imaging, non-destructive testing and diagnostics, with more than 1000 publications, over 150 patents and created over 100 different techniques and measurement instruments developed for various industrial and scientific applications. Active involvement in master‘s and PhD studies, leading researchers of Institute are members of Electrical and Electronics Engineering PhD committee, and members of Measurement Engineering PhD committee.

    The Ultrasound Research Institute of Kaunas University of Technology successfully participated and participates in 24 international FP5, FP6, FP7 and 2 Eurostars projects, 6 Horizon 2020 projects and numerous international contracts with companies. The main area of interest covers development of new advanced ultrasonic measurement, imaging and non-destructive techniques for extreme conditions (high temperatures, strong radioactive radiation, high pressure, aerospace and chemical activity) and non-conventional applications of non-destructive testing (NDT), monitoring, quality control (for Industry 4.0) and predictive maintenance. Also measurements, material characterization, signal and image processing, diagnostics, imaging and AI-based clinical decision support in medical field. Those techniques are oriented to solve the complicated questions related to the construction safety, environment safety and human health.

    Ultrasound Institute of KTU hosts the research Infrastructure ULTRATEST:  „Ultrasonic Non-Destructive Testing, Measurement and Diagnostics Center“ (Prof. dr. Renaldas Raišutis is coordinator):

    Prof. Dr. Renaldas Raisutis is Chief researcher and Head of Numerical Simulation Laboratory at Prof. Kazimieras Baršauskas Ultrasound Research Institute, Kaunas University of Technology (KTU) and Professor at Department of Electrical Power systems, Faculty of Electrical and Electronics engineering, KTU. His main field of research activity: fundamental and applied ultrasound, non-destructive testing, monitoring and quality control in Industry 4.0, signal and image processing, material characterization, solutions for AI-based decision support and diagnostics, medical applications. He is author and co-author of more than 95 scientific publications and 41 conference proceedings (h-index: 12 (Clarivate Analytics)), innovator and co-author of national patent and 10 international patents (USA and EU).

    He is a member of IEEE society, ESIS (European Structural Integrity Society), Lithuanian Biomedical Engineering Society, Lithuanian Society of Acoustics, Lithuanian Society of Telemedicine. Peer reviewer of BINDT Insight, IEEE and Elsevier, member and secretary of doctoral studies committee of Measurement Engineering. He has more than 20 years’ experience of developing decision support and predictive maintenance systems for aerospace, energy, transport, industry and oil and gas. He developed more than 10 different ultrasound technologies and applications. He participated in more than 19 FP5, FP6, FP7, Eurostars and Horizon 2020 international and 11 national projects (as researcher and principal investigator). He is supervisor of 5 Phd students. He is a consultant of international companies and public institutions (technical expert of Eureka secretariat, expert of Lithuanian Research Council, expert of Lithuanian Agency for Science, Innovation and Technology), member of technology entrepreneurship programmes.
