    Geotechnologies Applied to Management of Territory (GeoGet)

    The Geotechnologies Applied to Management of Territory (GeoGet) Research Group (GeoGet) has existed since 2006. It develops theoretical and practical research aimed at the application of Digital Cartography, Remote Sensing, Global Satellite Positioning Systems (GNSS), and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in the various activities included in territorial management. The group’s work has repercussions of various types:

    1. Production of georeferenced databases, for different areas of the national territory, which bring together basic and thematic maps and images from different sensors/satellites, especially aimed at studies in the Brazilian Amazon region;

    2. Establishment of a network of experts who work on research aimed at applying geotechnologies in territorial management;

    3. Set of advisory experiences for public institutions in developing territorial management work at municipal, state and national scales, as well as training local technicians and managers;

    4. Preparation of academic works, such as undergraduate projects and monographs, specializations, master's dissertations and doctoral theses with related topics;

    5. Organization and participation in national and international scientific events, promoting the dissemination of the group's research results;

    6. Carrying out contacts and academic/institutional exchanges, which enable group members to exchange experience with other research groups, both national and international, that work on similar themes.

    Research Lines:

    • Geographic Cartography: Objective of carrying out theoretical and practical studies on the ontology and epistemology of Cartography in its relationship with other sciences.

    • Geotechnologies and Management of Territory: Objective of developing applied studies of geotechnology in solving territorial management problems on an urban-regional scale, mainly in the Brazilian Amazon region.

    • Geoinformation Methodologies and Technologies: Objective of developing theoretical-methodological studies to deepen knowledge of geotechnologies, with regard to their development and use in contemporary society.
