CESGA mission is to “Contribute to the advancement of Science and Technical Knowledge, by means of research and application of high-performance computing and communications, as well as other information technologies resources, in collaboration with other institutions, for the profit of society”. Currently, it provides services and conducts research and innovation on areas as High Performance Computing, Cloud Computing, Big Data, Artificial Intelligence for Manufacturing, Communications, Geographical Information Systems and Information and Communication Technologies for Education (e-learning).
In the research and innovation area, CESGA has participated in around 200 research projects in its 25 years, many of them in European Research Programs, mainly in technological development, ICT for education, and e-infrastructure. As a medium supercomputing centre, it is involved in many activities related to the provision of these services to the academic and non-academic communities around Spain and Europe. In fact, CESGA has a prominent position in the Spanish Supercomputing Network which gathers all Supercomputer Centres in Spain as well as PRACE and EOSC.
GIS Area has extensive experience in conducting projects with GIS; those which stand out are related with the environment, Heritage, marine studies, and industrial or socioeconomic, developing in the last years several open source Geoportal or Map viewers with standard OGC services compliant with EU Inspire directive Spatial Data Infrastructures (SDI).
