Our group has already won a CHIST-ERA grant (call 2019) as the international coordinator of the SWAIN project (https://swain-project.eu/). Therefore, we have substantial experience in application processes and preparing a competitive proposal. We can contribute to a proposal for the SPiDDS call focussing on the following research interests in our group:

• Decentralized, geo-distributed, and networked system architectures (Multi-Cloud, Edge Computing, IoT, WSN)
• Geo-distributed machine learning (Federated Learning, Edge AI/ML)
• Non von Neumann architectures and their convergence with distributed computing
• Reliability, failure resilience, resource management, adaptability, scalability, and sustainability challenges in the above systems

To address these challenges, we employ various techniques ranging from reinforcement learning to graph theory in real-world use cases, including environmental monitoring, intelligent traffic control, and smart grids.
