Remote Sensing & Geomatics - Institute for Interdisciplinary Mountain Research

The research group Remote Sensing and Geomatics of the Institute for Interdisciplinary Mountain Research at Austrian Academy of Sciences focuses on observing and quantifying spatio-temporal processes and changes in natural areas and in areas shaped by humans. We investigate causes and effects using methods of earth observation, esp. remote sensing, close-range sensor technology and analytical methods of geoinformatics. A further special area is 3D and 4D geodata processing. We are particularly interested in issues of data integration of data sets from close-range sensing and satellites, time-series analyses, and in developing monitoring approaches for mountain regions and integrating derived parameters into process models. The methods and  workflows that we develop facilitate basic research and support long-term research, esp. into issues of geomorphology, natural hazards, vegetation mapping and land use.
