In preparation for the Call 2019, to be open in October, the national and regional research funding organisations of CHIST-ERA invite the researchers   to participate in the definiation of the call at the CHIST-ERA Conference 2019.

The conference is organised in Tallinn on June 11-13 by ETAg and UKRI, the Estonian and British members of CHIST-ERA.

The programme features a combination of plenary and facilitated break-out sessions, high-level keynote talks by internationally renowned specialists, short talks and poster presentations to identify and formulate the promising scientific and technological challenges at the frontier of research. This event represents a unique opportunity for the scientific community to directly participate in scoping the call topics content and exchanging their views on the future of the domains with their peers. Many successful CHIST-ERA research proposals have been initiated at CHIST-ERA conferences.

The conference is also a netwroking event that allows researchers to set the basis for future research collaborations. A specific information session for potential applicants to the call is proposed and the researchers will be offered the possibility to pitch their research project proposal. In the evening of June 11 and 12, all the participants are invited to join a networking event:

  •  June 11: Kaerajaan restaurant (Town Hall square 17, Tallinn 10146)
  •  June 12: Peppersack restaurant (Viru 2, Tallinn 10140)
Extended to May 27: Deadline for proposing a short talk
May 31: Notification of selected short talks
June 8: Registration deadline

The two topics of the call, selected by CHIST-ERA in 2018, are:

Explainable Machine Learning-based Artificial Intelligence
Novel Computational Approaches for Environmental Sustainability

Preliminary topic descriptions have been published HERE. The same web page provides also the anticipated country participation. After the conference, the outcomes of the conference discussions will be integrated into the topics description, which will constitute the scientific text of the official Call 2019 announcement, to be published in October.

The conference is divided into two parts. While the first part, June 11-12 from noon to noon, is dedicated to topic Explainable Machine Learning-based Artificial Intelligence, the second part June 12-13 explores topic Novel Computational Approaches for Environmental Sustainability promising research directions. A programme overview is presented in the table below and the abstracts of the talks and posters are available HERE.

In addition to joining the facilitated break-out sessions, the participants are encouraged to contribute with a poster (A0, portrait format) and/or by proposing a shor talk (10-12'). The deadline for proposing a short talk is extended to May 27. The short talks will be selected by CHIST-ERA end of May.
